Co-operative Bank and World Vision Kenya Roll Out Secure Online Donation Platform

Co-operative Bank of Kenya has partnered with World Vision Kenya to enhance digital philanthropy through the integration of the bank’s Chapa Pay payment gateway into the Inuka Angaza online donation platform.

The upgrade enables individuals, businesses and Kenyans in the diaspora to make instant, real-time contributions to the Inuka Angaza Fund. By incorporating Chapa Pay, the platform benefits from advanced, bank-level security features designed to protect donors and ensure transaction integrity.

These include 3D Secure authentication for added verification during online payments, PCI-DSS compliance to safeguard donor data, and real-time processing that allows funds to be mobilised immediately for development initiatives.

To support the initiative, Co-operative Bank has committed KSh 4 million to the fund, which is targeting KSh 50 million over the FY2023–FY2025 period. So far, KSh 39 million has already been raised — a strong indicator of growing local support for development financing.

Kenya’s non-governmental sector, which includes more than 12,600 registered organisations, currently manages an estimated KSh 196 billion annually. However, the sector faces increasing pressure from tightening external funding, making locally driven resource mobilisation more critical than ever.

Commenting on the partnership, Benard Osoro, Head of Institutional Banking at Co-operative Bank, said the collaboration highlights the role of secure digital tools in advancing locally funded development models.

The funds raised through Inuka Angaza are already delivering tangible results across the country. To date, the initiative has supported education programmes by providing learning materials to 700 children and school uniforms to 60 learners. In the health sector, 1,795 girls have received dignity kits and sanitary towels, while access to clean water has improved for 837 schoolchildren and 2,100 households.

Gilbert Kamanga, National Director of World Vision Kenya, noted that digital giving platforms have become essential to sustaining development work, adding that the secure payment gateway marks an important step toward long-term, locally financed impact.
